Louis Jerome ‘Jerry’ Basler

Jerry Basler, 85, was relieved of his suffering on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2024.  

He was born on June 5, 1938, in Cobden, the son of Frank “Beck” and Lettie Basler.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol; sons Ben and Davy; and his sister Dorothy. He also was preceded in death by his love, Linda McGee.  

He is survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was known by his family and friends for his orneriness, always leaving everyone with a smile or a raised eyebrow. He had a great sense of humor, a generous heart and a passion for collecting arrowheads. He also delighted in giving any child in his path a dollar bill. He will be greatly missed.

During his final year, he was cared for at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna, where he received an abundance of care, love and support. Special thanks also to Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Private services will be held at a later date.
