Laura L. Johnson, 87, of Paducah, Ky., and formerly of Cairo, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2025, at Providence Pointe in Paducah,

She was born on Feb. 6, 1937, in Barlow, Ky., the daughter of Elmer and Clara Apperson Kerley.

On Aug. 23, 1953, she married Donald E. Johnson, and together they spent over 68 years together until his passing in 2022.

Mrs. Johnson worked for Bunge Corporation, where she was a secretary. 

She was a faithful member of the Mighty Rivers Regional Worship Center in Cairo, where she was a member of the church choir and taught Sunday school for several years. She and Donald always treated her church children like family and they would take them on outings to Cape Girardeau and when summer came, have them over for swim parties with Donald operating the grill. She was devoted to her family that she loved. In her leisure time, she loved to read.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna L. (Kenneth) White of Corinth, Miss.; son Gregory W. Johnson of Paducah; sister Glenda Hendricks of Zephyrhills, Fla.; grandchildren Jennifer, Bethany, Bradley, Brian, Heidi and Ben; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Virgie Flatt.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at Mighty Rivers Worship Center in Cairo, with the Rev. Larry Potts officiating.

Interment followed the funeral service at Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds.
