Joyce A. Hickam Stout
Joyce A. Hickam Stout, 68, of Anna, died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
She was born on Nov. 13, 1952, in Murphysboro, the daughter of Jesse Bernell and Sarah Cooper Hickam.
She married James Stout on July 15, 1977, at Ferne Clyffe State Park. He preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 2014.
She is survived by two daughters, Misti DeVillez and husband Ted of Eldorado and Brandi Richardson and husband Chris of Valdosta, Ga.; one son, Zachery Stout of Marion; seven grandchildren, Katie Wright and husband Nick of Eldorado, Jordan Bailey of Equality, Mia, Marilyn and Savannah DeVillez of Eldorado, Abigail and Colt Richardson of Valdosta, Ga.; two great-grandchildren, Avery and Sutton Wright of Eldorado; her father, Jesse Hickam of Anna; a sister, Belinda Smith of Marion; a brother, Roger Hickam and wife Shelly of Somerville, Tenn. numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim and mother Sarah.
She was a Christian. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
She had a long history in transportation, as a team driver with her husband, Jim, a school bus driver, and most recently a dispatcher for SMART Transportation in Vienna. On the road, she adopted the CB handle “Silly Filly,” which some people still called her.
Funeral services for Joyce Stout were at 1 p.m. Monday, July 19, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna, with Jason Forby officiating. Interment followed in Ebenezer Hall Cemetery in Lick Creek.
Memorials can be made to the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
