Joe H. McMahan

Joe H. McMahan, age 87 of Anna, went home to his Savior, Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025 with his family by his side. 

He was born Oct. 11, 1938 in Wolf Lake, the son of Merritt Estin and Beulah E. (Bittle) McMahan. 

He married Gale Scivally on Dec. 14, 1963 in Mt. Carmel. She preceded him in death on June 7, 2006.

Joe is survived by his two sons, Joseph McMahan of Anna, and Randy McMahan of Anna; five grandchildren, Cody McMahan of Anna, Andrew McMahan of Troy, Kyle McMahan of Anna, Darci McMahan of Anna and Sarah McMahan of Chicago; four great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister, Vickie (Gary) Sadler of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; numerous nieces and nephews; cousins; other relatives and close friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gale McMahan; two sisters, Millie Gardner and Patricia Schlenker; brother, Archie McMahan, and infant brother, Merrit Junior McMahan. 

Joe honorably served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion. 

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Anna where he served as deacon for many years. 

Joe was an avid Cardinal Baseball fan and enjoyed going to the local coffee shops to socialize. He had several spots he would go to in the morning and afternoon with his friends when he was able. 

Early in his working career he farmed and worked for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad and later retiring from the Canadian National Railroad. 

  Graveside services were on Sunday, Nov. 9 at the Anna Cemetery with Bro. Jack Thornton and Bill Littrell officiating. 

Graveside military rites were conducted by the Army Funeral Honor Team. Interment followed. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred to the First Baptist Church in Anna. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
