Jim L. Cowsert
Jim L. Cowsert, 64, of Goreville, and formerly of Cobden and Ware, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, at 12:50 p.m. at his home.
He was born on Feb. 12, 1952, in Bixby, Okla., the son of Charles L. Cowsert Sr. and Pearl Pitcher Cowsert.
In 1980, he married Betty Johnson at Shiloh Baptist Church in Cobden. She survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Liberty Spurlock, Michelle (Dennis) Wildhagen and Michael (Laura) Wallace; grandchildren Kalyssa Spurlock, Haley Helton, Dallas (Phil Strotman) Helton, Jarrett (Megan) Helton, Caitlyn Wallace, Seth Wallace and Aiden Wallace; and a great-granddaughter, Gracynn S. Helton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Penny C. Cowsert; a brother and two sisters.
He was a volunteer EMT, firefighter and police officer for the Village of Cobden. He was employed by the Western Auto as well as the IKT stores in Anna for 20 years. He also served as the maintenance supervisor for the Carbondale Rehabilitation and Nursing Center for four years prior to working as a shuttle bus driver for Saluki Express in Carbondale until his illness.
He loved riding motorcycles, spending time with his wife and family as well as his dogs. He was of the Baptist faith.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
