Jerry M. Toler

Jerry M. Toler, 85, of Dongola, died on July 1, 2024, at his home, surrounded by loved ones.

He was born on April 2, 1939, the son of Dock and Ethel Toler.  

He married Charlotte Bryan on April 29, 1961.  She preceded him in death on June 5, 2018.

He was a Dongola High School graduate with the class of 1957. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army and served from 1957 to 1960.  

He retired from Caterpillar after 33 years and moved back to Dongola to be close to family and friends.  

He was a reputable man in the community and of strong Baptist faith. He loved to fish and loved gardening.  His greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with family and grandchildren.

Mr. Toler is survived by two sons, Mark and Todd Toler of Dongola; grandchildren Christopher (Kyle) Higdon of Carterville, Michael Toler of Alto Pass and Silas Toler of Anna and Shirley and Brenna Pribble of Anna.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; siblings Joe Toler, Barbara Casey, Bonnie Wright, Carolyn Modglin and infant brother Jack Toler.

A time of remembrance by family and friends was held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 8, at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola.

Inurnment followed at the American Legion Cemetery in Dongola, with a flag presentation by the Illinois National Guard.
