James Leland ‘Jim’ Shafer II
James Leland “Jim” Shafer II, 68, of Cape Girardeau, and formerly of Thebes, died at 7:40 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, at Jackson Manor.
He was born on Oct. 5, 1953, in Cape Girardeau, the son of James “Chief” and Genevia L. Guess Shafer.
Mr. Shafer had a variety of jobs, including coroner and police officer in Alexander County.
The job he had for most of his life was that of a nurse, (RN). He worked at St. Francis and Southeast Hospital, as well as Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
He worked as an ICU and ER nurse. He was also a travel nurse with assignments all over the country, as well as overseas.
He loved to travel. He was a member of the Cape Seventh Day Adventist Church, was dedicated to Jesus and was excited to go to Heaven. He was a man with a big heart.
Survivors include his partner of 15 years, Carol Emanuel; son Kraig (Natasha) Shafer; daughter Amy (Jeromey) Sitton; stepsons Kyle and Kevin Pridemore; brother Larry (Crystal) Shafer; grandchildren Jordan and Chloe Shafer and Maisie and Eli Sitton; nephew Alex (Katelyn) Shafer; and several cousins, other relatives and friends.
A private inurnment will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thebes.
Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau is in charge of arrangements.
