James E. Selinger
James E. Selinger, 83, of Cobden, died on July 16, 2024, at his home.
He was born on Jan. 1, 1941. He married Margaret Blank on May 26, 1962.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his children, Dennis (Carol) Selinger of Carterville, Anne (David) Chidsey of Naples, Fla., and Greg (Ronni) Selinger of Athens, Ill.; his brother, Tom (Kari) Selinger of Springfield; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Helen Selinger; his son, Stuart Selinger; his brothers, Bob and Larry Selinger; and his sister, Mary Francis McKibben.
He graduated from Cathedral High School (1959), Illinois State University (bachelor’s) and Bradley University (master’s). He dedicated his professional career to the field of special education.
James and Margaret made their forever home in the rolling hills of Southern Illinois, where they created lifelong memories with their family and friends. James was an avid outdoorsman and cherished his family above all.
Funeral Mass was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, at St. Aloysius Church in Springfield, with the Rev. Sajimon Kuriakose officiating. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery in Springfield.
Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Staab Funeral Homes in Springfield was in charge of arrangements.
