James Bruce Jones, Sr.
James Bruce “Jim” Jones, Sr., age 83, of Dongola, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
He was born on March 27, 1942, to John E. and Mae (Adams) Jones in Anna, Ill.
Jim proudly served his country as a Combat Engineer in the military and was a Life Member of the VFW Post in Vienna, Ills. He devoted many years to public service, retiring in 1997 as Supervisor II from the Vienna Correctional Center.
Jim found deep peace on his farm, where he could often be found riding his tractor, quietly cruising the land in his Ranger side-by-side, sitting by a campfire, and enjoying God’s creation. Those quiet moments reflected the steady, thoughtful nature of the man who enjoyed life’s simple blessings.
Above all, he loved his family deeply and cherished time spent with them. A man of strong faith, Jim loved the Lord and served Him faithfully, and was a devoted member of Cross Road Church in Ullin, Ill.
Survivors include his children, Angela Jones-Sharp, James Wayne (Angela) Jones, and James Bruce, Jr. (Angela) Jones; three grandchildren, Krystal McDonald, Haley (Brady) Lantz, and Holly Jones; two great-grandchildren, Wyatt Lantz and Paisley Grace Lantz; sister-in-law, Adra Jones; nieces and nephews, Darlene (Bill) Osteen, Tyler Jones, Debi (Mike) Barnett, Amy (Jonathan) Schott, and Angie Blaney-Jones, and long-time friend, Betty Eagle.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, J.E. Jones, Jack Jones, and an infant brother; and one sister, Joy Bostian.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 2 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Bob Manier officiating at Cross Road Church in Ullin.
Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the church.
