James B. Pickett

James B. Pickett, 94, of Tamms, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020, at 2:41 a.m. at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born on Aug. 12, 1926, in Berry, Ala., the son of Lester Sr. and Anna Mae King Pickett.  

He was married on July 8, 1944, to Lula G. Raby.  She preceded him in death June 27, 2008.

He served his country with two tours in the U.S. Marines.

He worked on the GM & O and ICG railroads as a switchman and retired as a conductor. He was a member of the former Elco Methodist Church.

His family included sons James T. “Terry” and Cathy Pickett of St. Louis, Tony B. and Debbie Pickett of Pacific, Mo., and Thomas A. and Lorita Pickett of Tamms; grandchildren Stephanie Pickett, Jason B. Pickett, Julie L. and Brian White, Tiffiney (deceased) and Rick Ryan, and Amy B. Bigham; step-grandchildren Tyler (Elizabeth) Kaufman, Laura and Tom Patterson, Jeremy and Sarah Heise, Amanda and Michael Hill; great-grandchildren Meghan and Adam Henderson, Koby White, Colin T. Ryan, Blake R. Ryan, Logan J. Pickett, Jared T. Pickett (deceased), Emma Jean Pickett, Cayden Bigham, Nate Bigham and Lawson Bigham; step-great-grandchildren Wesley Hill, Sutton Hill, Aislyn Heise, Henley Patterson, Adler Patterson, Corbyn Patterson; great-great-grandchildren, Macen Henderson and Roland Henderson; brother Lester and Sarah Pickett (both deceased); nieces, nephews and other relatives. 

Services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Larry Buckles officiating. Interment followed in St. John’s Cemetery near Dongola, with flag folding and presentation by the U.S. Marines.

Memorials can be made to the Veteran’s Honor Flight program or to the Missouri Veteran’s Home.  

Crain Funeral Home in Tamms was in charge of arrangements.
