James Alan “Hack” Hines

James Alan “Hack” Hines, age 67, of Anna, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026.

The last of five children, he was born on Jan. 10, 1959, to Loren W. Hines and Olive L. (Boyer) Hines of Anna, Ill.

James was a graduate of the 1977 class of Anna-Jonesboro Community High School and lived in the Anna-Jonesboro area all of his life.

He worked for Shawnee Mass Transit as a bus driver until his illness. In past years, he worked for the Union County Laborers’ Local and was a grounds keeper for the Union County Golf Course.

He was a proud member of the Anna-Jonesboro Elks Lodge #1641. From 1997 to 1998, he served as Exalted Ruler; from 2008 to 2009 as Vice-President, and was a Past Treasurer. Jim was the Local and District Chairman of the Elks Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest. He became a Lifetime Member of the Anna-Jonesboro Elks Lodge in 2022 and served currently as a Trustee.

Jim loved to fish, was a music lover, and an avid sports fan who followed many

A-JCHS Wildcats basketball and football games.

Survivors include his sister, Debby Hines Kent (Ron) of Jonesboro, Ill.; sisters-in-law, Diane (Stark) Hines of Kansas City, Mo. and Dianne (Mayberry) Hines of Anna, Ill.; nieces, Jennifer Hines Kristoff (Dick) of Buncombe, Ill., Stephanie Hines of Kansas City, Mo., and Hillary Hines-Holl (Tim Holl) of Clinton, Ill.; and a nephew, B.J. Colson of Anna, Ill.; along with several great-nieces and great-nephews, and a host of friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lennie G. “Jerry” Hines, John R. Hines, and Bobby Joe Hines; and a very special friend, Julie Thompson.

The Elks Funeral Service (Elks Last Rites) will be held on on Saturday, April 4 at 5 p.m. at the Anna-Jonesboro Elks Lodge #1641, 427 E Jefferson St, Anna, IL 62906. 

Following the service, the Elks invite you to food and fellowship to celebrate the life and legacy of Hack.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of James “Hack” Hines.

The family would like to give a very special Thank You to Anna-Jonesboro Elks Lodge for all the help they provided through his illness and after. It is greatly appreciated by his family.

The cremation of James Alan “Hack” Hines will be personally handled by the staff of Crain Funeral Home.

Crain Funeral Home in Anna, Illinois is in charge of arrangements.
