Ida May Smith
Ida May Smith, 103, of Anna, died Monday, June 19, 2023, at The Voyage Senior Living of Anna.
She was born on June 2, 1920, in Du Quoin, the daughter of William R. and Myrtle Gilbreath Macy.
She married Merle R. Smith on Dec. 11, 1957, in Corinth, Miss. He preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1988.
She is survived by a stepdaughter, June Qualls; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a special “adopted” granddaughter, Stephanie Rhodes; a nephew, Gaylon (Goldie) Cruse; other nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends, including the other residents at The Voyage, especially Trudy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a stepson and a brother, William Macy.
She worked at the Florsheim Shoe Factory in Anna until her retirement in 1975. She loved animals and enjoyed quilting and sewing. She was a strong, independent woman that loved living in her country home near Alto Pass. She was able to stay there, even mowing her own yard, up to the age of 95 before moving to The Voyage.
Family and friends of Ida May Smith will host a Celebration of Life at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 1, at The Voyage Senior Living of Anna, 151 Denny Dr., Anna.
