Harold L. Kraatz

Harold L. Kraatz, 91, of Anna, and formerly of Dongola, died at 12:20 p.m. on Nov. 3, 2018, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born on Nov. 18, 1926, in Ullin, the son of Carl and Florence Wood Kraatz.  

He married Charlotte Holcomb on June 26, 1948.  She preceded him in death on Dec. 22, 2009.

Mr. Kraatz was a graduate of Ullin High School. He served in the U.S. Army.  He retired from Southern Illinois Electric Cooperative after 42 years as a dedicated lineman. He recently received his 70-year IBEW 702 membership pin.  

He enjoyed spending time with all of his family, especially his grandchildren. He recently accepted Christ as his savior.

He is survived by his son, Paul (Diane) Kraatz of Jonesboro; a granddaughter, Paula (Aaron) Stover of Lick Creek; a grandson, Cody (Kim) Kraatz of Makanda; great-grandchildren  Kaylee Stover, Kenzie Stover, Kaleb Stover, Tyler Kraatz and Joseph Kraatz;  and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Kraatz and Florence Wood-Brown; his wife, Charlotte Kraatz; and a son, Jonathan “John” Kraatz.

Funeral services for Mr. Kraatz were at noon Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro,  with Pastor Steve Guined officiating. 

Interment followed in the Anna City Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by the VFW’s Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of Anna and the Illinois Honor Guard.
