Gwendolyn Yates Arthur

Gwendolyn Yates Arthur, 87, of Miller City, died Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born on Sept. 17, 1936, in Willard, the daughter of Lawrence Dickerson “Babe” and Fleecy Geneva Bauer Yates.  

She married Thomas Edward Arthur on May 29, 1953. He preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 2011.

She attended Willard Grade School and graduated from Cairo High School in 1953.  

In 1977, she and Tom moved to Colorado and lived there for many years after leaving Southern Illinois and returned home in 2016. 

She was the Queen of her family. She loved getting dressed up for any occasion and shopping at Charlotte Russe and visiting her friends there.

Survivors include her daughter, Kimberly (Dino) Bankson; grandson Mike (Tara) Story; great-grandchildren Raelen, Jena (Blake) and Billy (Kyla); great-great-grandchildren Blake, Oliva and Amelia; nephew Scott (Donna) Quesenberry; and great-nieces Lindsey and Kourtnee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son-in-law, Billy Story; a brother, Lawrence Yates; a sister, Judy Quesenberry; and grandparents Novella and Carl Bauer and Adeline and Asa Yates.

The cremation of Gwendolyn Yates Arthur was personally handled by the staff of Crain Funeral Home.

The family will host a Celebration of Life for Gwendolyn at a later date.
