Ella ‘Maxine’ Carstens

Ella “Maxine” Carstens, 95, of Marion, and formerly of Anna, died at 11:05 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, at Parkway Manor in Marion.

She was born on Dec. 5, 1921, in Ullin, the daughter of Oliver M. and Vinnie L. Walker Daniels.

She married Russell “Leo” Holcomb on Oct. 4, 1941, in Charleston, Mo. He preceded her in death on April 10, 1968. She later married Lloyd Carstens on July 1, 1969, in Kankakee. He also preceded her in death on March 3, 1997.

She loved to garden, crochet and read. She attended Our Lady of Fatima in Ullin prior to moving to Northern Illinois.

She is survived by her son, Barry (Teresa) Holcomb of Dongola, five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two sons, Ron L. Holcomb and James M. Holcomb; three sisters, Beulah Goodwin, Mary Frances Junkerman and infant Helen; and one brother, Morris Daniels.

Private graveside services were held Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the Anna City Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul Sadler officiating.
