Edward Gene Cates

Edward Gene Cates, 81, of Anna, died Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Union County Hospital in Anna. 

He was born on May 16, 1941, in Cobden, the son of Charles Ford and Anna Elizabeth Hubach Cates. 

He married Carolyn Crowell on Aug. 29, 1961. She preceded him in death on July 30, 2022.

Mr. Cates is survived by three sons, Jeff (Kim) Cates of Cobden, Tracy Cates of Anna and Patrick (Laura) Cates of Cobden; two grandchildren, Jessica Cates (Bryan Todd) and Samantha Cates; two great-grandchildren, Jamie Ford and Creighton Todd; two brothers, Gaylon (Clara) Cates of Cobden and Homer Cates of Fayetteville, N.C.; a sister, Ginny (Charles) Stephenson of Marion; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

He was preceded in death by wife, Carolyn Cates; his parents; two sisters and four brothers.

Mr. Cates was a carpet layer for many years. He was quite the storyteller. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. Most of all, he loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren.

Funeral services for Edward Gene Cates were at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 1, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. LaRue Parr and Pastor Bill Littrell officiating. Interment followed in Casper Cemetery near Anna.
