Edward (Eddie) Andrew Foutch
Edward (Eddie) Andrew Foutch of Cape Girardeau, Missouri passed away Oct. 2, 2025 in the comfort of his daughter’s home after battling cancer. He was 74 years old.
Eddie was born on Sept. 25, 1951, to Samuel Foutch of Thebes, Ill. and Dorlena McKee of Olive Branch, Ill.
Eddie was only five years old when his mother died in a tragic automobile accident. He reflected fondly of his memories growing up on his grandparents’ farm in southern Illinois.
A graduate of Egyptian High School, class of 1970, Eddie was a favorite for the minor league baseball draft when he instead enlisted in the Army where he served his country honorably in combat from 1971 to 1972.
He was stationed in Vietnam where he contracted malaria. After returning home, he went to work for Baldwin Associates and Pipefitters.
Eddie welcomed his first child in August of 1974, Bradly Shay Lucas. In his journal he expressed that the first people he told the news he was going to be a daddy to was his grandparents and that they were so happy for him.
In 1975 he went to work for Mobil Oil as a riverboat cook following in the footsteps of his father. In 1993, he medically retired due to complications from his military service.
On March 14, 1981 Eddie married Catherine Swoboda of Cape Girardeau at the Beach Grove Baptist Church in Thebes, Ill.
They were married 44 years and have two children, daughter Ashley Nicole Foutch and Kyle Andrew Foutch, both of Cape Girardeau. Edward was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
As a young man, Eddie served as a hunting guide in Southern Illinois. He was an avid fisherman, loved baseball and even stuck with his team, the Chicago Cubs, despite less than glowing stats.
He loved watching Forensic Files, true crime, old westerns (even read the books), and nature shows. He was devoted to coffee and cigarettes.
Before his death, he was able to strengthen bonds with those he loved most and reconnect with family and friends.
In his journal, Eddie wrote that he most wanted to be remembered for his love of family and friends. “My love for you will never stop.”
He is survived by his wife Catherine, his eldest son Bradly Shay Lucas (granddaughter Anna Vincent), daughter Ashley (granddaughter Jade Mosley), son Kyle (grandchildren Shaden, Rayah, Brooklyn, and Nylah Foutch), great-granddaughter Olivia Vincent, great-grandson on the way Cannan Vincent, sister Kelly Foutch-Elledge, and numerous other relatives.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, stepmother Thelma Foutch, grandparents, brother Dwight Nunn, and numerous Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
Eddie considered his uncle Gene a father figure and his Uncle Earnest as one who always had his back.
