Edmond George Bridewell

Edmond George Bridewell, of Grand Chain and formerly of Mounds, died at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.

He was born in Cairo on April 12, 1931, the son of Edmond Gottlieb Bridewell Jr. and Versa VonNida Bridewell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Edmond Gottlieb Bridewell Sr. and Francis Huber, also George Oliver VonNida and Blanch Atherton VonNida.

He is survived by his wife, the former Faye McCabe.

He was a graduate of Mounds Township High School, class of 1949, and a proud Railroader on the 1948 regional tournament basketball championship team.

He was a graduate of Western Colorado University and Southeast Missouri State University. He was a teacher, coach and administrator for 37 years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Missouri (BB-63) during the Korean conflict.

He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and tending to his lawn and garden. He also loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed spending his time with former Shawnee High School athletes.

He leaves a son, William Robert Bridewell (Belinda) of Green River, Wyo.; a daughter, Beth Elaine Dover (Kent) of Grand Chain; grandchildren Kiele Bridewell Jensen (Josh) and Logan Bridewell, all of Rock Springs, Wyo., Jonathan Dover (Kristi) of Lone Oak, Ky., and Alex Dover (Lindsey) of San Antonio, Texas; great-grandchildren Hadlee and Dominic Jensen, Lillian and Deion Bridewell, and Gavin and Addi Dover;  a sister, Marilyn Lake of Crown Point, Ind.; a step-grandson, Kelly Moneyhun of Bend, Ore.; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge, with the Rev. Larry Buckles officiating. Interment was in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge. 

Full military honors were given by the U.S. Navy burial team and area veterans.
