Earl Dean Simpson
Earl Dean Simpson, 90, of Cairo, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2024, at his son’s home in Osceola, Ind.
He was was born on July 11, 1933, in Olive Branch, the son of Clifton and Mabel Taylor Simpson.
Mr. Simpson served in the U.S. Army for 22 years and retired as a sergeant first class. He served two tours in Vietnam and also served in the Korean War, where he met his wife, Miok.
Mr. Simpson was a dedicated husband and father, being not only a guide for his family, but being a foundation for the success of his grandson, Colin. Earl was the epitome of stoicism... Wisdom, Courage, Temperance and Justice. The world is a less brighter place now that he is gone.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Angela, along with his grandson Colin. He leaves behind all of his nieces and nephews who cared for him dearly. One in particular, Joyce Tally, left a lasting reminder. “Family isn’t always blood. It’s the people in life who want you in theirs.” To this point, he also leaves behind his family of John Meyer, David Hornberger and Bubba Davis, as well as Mike and Kim Pierce.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Miok, in 2014, who he was married to for 42 years.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will be at Mound City National Cemetery.
