Dr. Richard Louis ‘Dick’ Pommier

Dr. Richard Louis “Dick” Pommier, 88, of Arlington, passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2024.

Mass of Christian burial was at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 16, at St. Patrick’s Church in Arlington, with Rev. Gregory Jarzombek OSB officiating. 

Richard was born in St. George, Ill., on Sept. 9, 1935, the son of Leonel Joseph and Regina Ruel Pommier. 

He married Ruth Mary McDonald on June 24, 1967. He taught English and Latin at Hall High School for 15 years. 

He received a Master of Science Degree in Education from Illinois State University, a Master of Arts Degree from the University of Notre Dame and a Doctor of Philosophy in Education from Southern Illinois University.

Richard was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Arlington, a member of the Holy Name Society and a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Anna. He was a reader and sang in the choir; he had a very beautiful voice. 

Richard was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, where he served as Grand Knight. He was very active in church and community. He enjoyed painting and cooking.

Pallbearers were Ryan Lindenmier, Jack Rooney, Paul Rooney, Bruce Smith, Tom Smith and Scott Finders.
