Doris Joan Luther

Doris Joan Luther, 80, of Cobden, died Thursday, March 30, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Mercy Health Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.

She was born on Jan. 14, 1943, in Chebanse, the daughter of Claude and Dorothy Mae Hubbs Howard. 

She worked in a variety of job fields, working as a telephone operator in Cobden and Kankakee, as a dispatcher for a heavy equipment company, as a librarian in Anna and Cobden, as secretary for Jeffrey Kellogg and as a owner of her own real estate business in California. 

She had a passion for animals and in her free time she had volunteered at a local animal shelter. She recently started making stuffed animals and donated them to local organizations and school children.

She is survived by her sisters, Teresa Perry and Becky Hackethal; brothers Bud Howard, Mike Howard, Ed Howard and Donnie Howard; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Dorothy Howard.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, April 16, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at St. Joseph Hall in Cobden.
