Dale Coastel Follis
Dale Coastel Follis, 91, of Marion, died peacefully at his son’s home on Oct. 19, 2023.
He was born on Oct. 10, 1932, the son of Coastel and Lucile Morneweg Follis.
Mr. Follis is survived by his wife, Billie. He is also survived by his daughter, Melanie (David) Craig of Carterville; two sons, Timothy Follis of Carterville and Stephen (Jamie) Follis of Marion; grandchildren Andrew Craig of Bartelso and Sidney, Dara and Vida Follis of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Fawn Follis.
His family thanked Hospice of Southern Illinois for their kindness and care during Dale’s final days.
He married Billie Joan Rhodes on June 1, 1958, in Jonesboro. They shared 65 years together.
He graduated from Anna-Jonesboro Community High School in 1950 and graduated from Southern Illinois University in 1954.
He served in the U.S. Army for two years after graduating from college. He then worked as a design engineer for various companies in Missouri, Ohio and Illinois.
In addition, Mr. Follis was a landlord for many years, both renting and maintaining his rental properties.
He was an FAA licensed private pilot, loved to garden and was active in his church. Mr. Follis and his wife were members of Christian Life Church in Herrin and served various roles throughout the years in the church. They especially enjoyed being greeters on Sunday morning.
Graveside funeral services for Dale Follis were at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23, at the Jonesboro Cemetery, with Pastor Lori Burchell officiating.
