Charlotte A. Martin White

Charlotte A. Martin White, 88, of Jonesboro and formerly of Vienna, died at 10:40 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Integrity Healthcare of Anna. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by members of her loving family.

She was born on Aug. 29, 1934, in Vienna, the daughter of Edwin Joseph Mathis and Helen Virgil Noble Mathis.

In January 1952, she married  Harold “Red” Martin in Arkansas. She was later married to John White in Metropolis in July 1977. He preceded her in death in 1993.

Survivors include a daughter, Jackie Sue Martin of Jonesboro; five grandchildren, Rick W. Martin, Chandra (Klint Taylor) Martin, Conny (Justin) Cunningham, Jason (Dennis) Oglesby and Damian Martin; four great-grandchildren, Cherokee, Genesis, Kennedy and Kalista; two great-great-grandchildren; an aunt, Betty Noble of Vienna; a dear and special friend, Toni McClain of Jonesboro; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Rick D. Martin and a sister, Helen Jo Walker.

She was a 1951 graduate of Vienna High School.  She had been employed in the food service industry as a restaurant waitress. She was also a devoted homemaker.  She enjoyed flower gardening, sewing and helping others. 

She had formerly been a member of the Illinois Sheriff’s Association, The Eagles Club in Marion, Woodmen of the World Lodge No. 26 in Anna, as well as AARP.

She was a faithful Christian and a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church, southwest of Vienna.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to both Integrity Healthcare of Anna and Hospice of Southern Illinois for their gentle and attentive care to Charlotte during her illness.

A service honoring the life of Charlotte White will be conducted Saturday, June 24, at 1 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.  Brother Bill Littrell will officiate.  Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
