Charles E. Girtman
Charles E. Girtman, 85, of Makanda, and formerly of Percy, died Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.
He was born on Oct. 8, 1935, in Union County, the son of Coy and Dorothy Mae Little Girtman.
He married Sue Johnston on June 3, 2000, in Gatlinburg, Tenn.
Mr. Girtman is survived by his wife, Sue Girtman of Murphysboro; a son, Bradley Dean Girtman of Makanda; a daughter, Heather Lynn Housman of Murphysboro; grandchildren Chelsea Housden and Caitlin Rogers; great-grandchildren Izzy, Ivy and Iris Rogers and Salem Housden; sisters Donna (Bud) Duty of Cobden and Judith (Charles) Bollinger of Lansing, Mich.; a brother, Coy “Bud” (Kaye) Girtman of Goreville; a sister-in-law, JoAnn Girtman of Cobden; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Rosalie Girtman; brothers Joe and Howard “Tom” Girtman; and a sister, Maxine Girtman.
Mr. Girtman served in the U.S. Air Force during the war in Korea. He worked for many years as a purchasing agent for various companies.
Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, at the Cobden Cemetery in Cobden, with Pastor Steve Duncan officiating.
Graveside military rites were conducted by Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW in Anna and the Scott Air Force Base honor guards. Interment immediately followed.
