Cecilia Devore

Cecilia Ann Moses Devore, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died on March 7, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 67 years old. She was born on July 26, 1955, in Cairo.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Roger Devore; sister Carol Moses (John) Stout; brothers James (Chong) Moses and William (Janet) Moses; and brother-in-law Curtis (Pamela) Devore.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, Julia and Sam Moses; and  by siblings Kathy Moses Northington and David (Becky) Moses.

Cece was a career Registered Nurse, who served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, splitting time between active duty and the reserves. She retired at the rank of lieutenant colonel. She also worked 20 years as a nurse at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville. 

She graduated with a Nursing Degree from Murray State University in Kentucky. She also earned a Master’s in Hospital Administration Degree from Golden Gate University in California.

Cece had an outgoing personality and “gift of gab.” She never met a stranger and was especially loved by her many nieces and nephews. She loved to keep busy with many organizations and activities. Traveling and seeing the world was another priority. She loved living in Florida since her recent move there.

 Visitation will be Friday, May 5, at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cairo, beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing until the start of a prayer service at 1 p.m.  This will be followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. at Mound City National Cemetery, with military rites provided by the U. S. Air Force Honor Guard.

The family requests donations to the American Cancer Society in Cece’s name in lieu of flowers.
