Bobby G. Whitehead

Bobby G. Whitehead, 86, of Karnak, died at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis. 

His granddaughter Kayla Eddington was by his side, holding his hand and talking to him when he took his last breath.

He was born on March 10, 1938, in Tunnel Hill. He loved sitting around with his buddies talking about guns. There was never a dull moment, he always had a joke or a story to tell. 

He was an operator with the former kitty litter plant in Olmsted called Southern Clay, where he was employed over 25 years.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Charlotte Wright Whitehead; daughter Kim Eddington (James) of Karnak; step-children Dianna Miller (Stu) of Grand Chain, Deanna Wright of Karnak and Pam Lessar of Karnak; five grandchildren, Stephanie Debose (Gary), Melissa Parker, Gayla Jones (DJ), J.R. Eddington (Heather) and Kayla Eddington; 13 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and special friends, the Rev. Tim Newton family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl Whitehead and Mary Helen Holmes; sisters Sharon Kay Sharp and Mary Underhile; and one son, Richard Whitehead.

Funeral services honoring the life of Bobby G. Whitehead were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak. The Rev. Tim Newton and the Rev. John Gurley officiated. Interment followed at the Jonesboro Cemetery. 

Pallbearers were Levi Eddington, Aaron Jones, J.R. Eddington, Dennis (DJ) Jones, Randy Wright and Scott Wright.

Honorary pallbearers were Jayce Dowdy and Noah Carr.
