Alfred L. Dammann

Alfred L. Dammann, 96, of Anna, died at 2:55 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Union County Nursing Home.

He was born on Jan. 31, 1927, on the family farm in Hillsboro, the son of Edward L. and Ada Banes Dammann.

He married Carolyn A. Frink on Sept. 30, 1951, in East St. Louis, and they celebrated over 71 years of marriage. She survives. 

Mr. Dammann served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946 and from 1950-1952 in Guam. 

He graduated from Millikin University with a degree in business administration. He owned and operated the Ben Franklin Store on Main Street in Anna for 25 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Anna.

Along with his wife Carolyn, he is survived by his sons, Steve (Sue) Dammann of Texas and Bruce (Cathy) Dammann of Wisconsin; grandchildren Nick (Mallory) Dammann of Illinois, Alex Dammann of Wisconsin  and Emma (Sam ) Perreth of Oregon; special niece Myra Jean Dagon; nephews Charles (Marilyn) Dammann and Philip (Madeleine) Dammann; and very good friend Orville Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Hazel; brothers, Jesse, Charles, Thomas, Joseph and little Jack.

Visitation will be Thursday, today, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro, and on Friday, April 7, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at United Methodist Church of Anna.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 7, at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Anna, with Pastor Tim Gossett officiating.

Interment will follow the funeral services at the Anna City Cemetery, with a flag presentation by the U.S. Navy.

Memorials can be made to the United Methodist Church of Anna.
