Paint the Town, Civil War play, judged art exhibit, penguins featured

Anna Arts Center events planned

The Shawnee Hills Arts Council/Anna Arts Center   will be a busy place this weekend.

The arts center is planning to host three events on Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28.

The schedule includes a Paint the Town event, a reader’s theater presentation and a reception for an April art exhibit and well-dressed penguins event.

Paint the Town

Paint the Town is planned Saturday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Community members are invited to come and transform a parking lot along West Davie Street into an outdoor canvas.

The parking lot, located across the street from the arts center, will be divided into 4 by 4 foot squares for individuals, families or friends to paint.

Kids, scout troops, church groups, grandparents and parents are invited.

The day also will include music and food.

Participants can register to paint alone or with their family or friends for a modest registration fee of $10.

Participants will receive an assigned 4 foot by 4 foot square, and a bag containing all the supplies needed to paint. There will be 100 squares to paint.

If it rains, the squares will be on the floor of the Center Stage Gallery building of the Anna Arts Center. Rain or shine, the event will go on.

“Terms of Surrender”

A reader’s theater presentation of the play “Terms of Surrender” is planned at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 27.

“Terms of Surrender” is Steve Falcone’s two-man play about Gen. Robert E. Lee’s surrender to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant on April 9, 1865, at the Appomattox Courthouse in Virginia to end the Civil War.

The play is being reprised by original actors Bruce Welker as Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee and Steve Falcone as Union Gen. Ulysses S. Grant. James Busch will assume the role of Cpl. Porter. The older, wiser generals will perform a staged reading.

Tickets are $5 and will be sold at the door.

Welker and Falcone toured with “Terms of Surrender” in the latter half of the 1990s and many who never saw the show have asked for a revival.

Art Exhibit, Penguins

A judged April art exhibit and well-dressed penguins reception, Sunday, April 28, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The community can come and check out the work of local artists, as well as the well-dressed penguins. Refreshments will be served. Admission is free.

An auction and awards program are planned at 3 p.m.

The Anna Arts Center is located at 125 W. Davie St. in Anna. More information is available by calling Lee’s cell phone at 904-625-1109 or emailing vabchlee@gmail.com.
