Stinson celebrating 100 years

Stinson Memorial Public Library District is planning a 100th anniversary celebration in 2014.

Stinson Memorial Library in Anna was dedicated on Aug. 14, 1914.

While planning still is in the early stages, one event already has been scheduled.

Stinson Library plans to sponsor a best beard contest. The contest is open to residents of Union County and the Stinson Memorial Library District.

Entry forms and contest rules are available at the main library, which is located at 409 S. Main St. in Anna.

Judging is planned on Aug. 16 during the library's centennial celebration.

Monetary prizes will be awarded to the top three participants, including $200 for first place, $100 for second and $50 for third.

All entries must be received at the library by no later than Aug. 1.

More details about a full day of activities to celebrate 100 years at the library will be announced in the coming weeks.
