A-J’s Chandra Parr signs with Evansville

Anna-Jonesboro Community High School athlete Chandra Parr has signed a national letter of intent to play softball next season at the University of Evansville. The university is in Evansville, Ind.

“She can play over there,” A-J softball Coach Kevin Stephens said. “She’s a very good player and a great outfielder.”

Parr currently plays shortstop for the Lady Wildcats. She sustained a knee injury last season and had to undergo surgery during the offseason to repair the damage.

“We’re still keeping an eye on it,” Stephens noted.  “She’s still a little worried about it.”

Parr was selected to the Southern Illinois Coaches Association All-South softball team in both 2010 and 2011.

She was named to the Southern Illinois River-to-River Mississippi Division All-Conference team for the past three seasons.

She currently holds A-J’s school-record for stolen bases in one season with 33.

At the time of her injury last season she had a .433 batting average, a .527 on base percentage and a .683 slugging percentage. She had 3 home runs, a triple  and 16 RBIs.

In 2011, she batted .375 and had an on base percentage of .456 for the Lady Wildcats. She also had a .953 fielding percentage and stole 23 bases.

In 2010, she had a .500 batting average, an on base percentage of .562, a fielding percentage of .968 and set the school record of 33 stolen bases.

Parr has been involved with a traveling softball team since she was 9 years old.
