'Mixing It Up' event will focus on underage drug, alcohol abuse issues

Union County Sheriff David Livesay and Union County State’s Attorney Tyler Edmonds invite the community to attend a free event which is planned Thursday, March 27, at Anna-Jonesboro Community High School.

The event is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the auditorium at the school. Admission is free.

(The event originally had been scheduled for Thursday, March 6, but was postponed due to bad weather.)

Livesay and Edmonds plan to join a number of presenters at "Mixing It Up: Underage Drinking, Drugs & Parties, What You May Not Know."

Hosted by the Rising Up for Change Coalition of Union County, "Mixing It Up” is designed to be an educational event where the changing face of underage drug and alcohol abuse will be the main topic of discussion.

Organizers noted that while this is a serious topic, it will be addressed not only in candid discussions but also in an entertaining manner that includes a skit, first-hand stories from guests and information from experts.

Livesay and Edmonds plan to present the Union County law enforcement perspective and believe this is an event that the youth, parents and grandparents of Union County would benefit from attending.

Featured speakers also are scheduled to include Zach Fraley and Kailee Burgin, two young people who will share stories about their addiction and recovery process.

Jane Pfefferkorn from Missouri Mission is scheduled to discuss drugs which may be coming to the Union County area from St. Louis.
