Lick Creek girls fourth at state

The Lick Creek girls’ basketball team earned a fourth-place finish at this year’s Illinois Junior High School Association girls’ Class S state tournament played at Rend Lake College at Ina.
Hoyleton-Grand Prairie defeated Lick Creek 40-21 in the third-place game at the state tournament Saturday, Feb. 1.
This is the second consecutive year that the Lady Eagles have finished fourth at the state tournament.
Sydney Heath had 5 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal to lead Lick Creek.
Makenzie Chaney had 5 points, 2 steals and an assist; Heidi Mitchell had 4 points and Hunter Denny had 3 points, a rebound, a steal and an assist.
Brenley Barringer had 2 points and a steal, Hannah Miller had 2 points and Bailey Hooks had 3 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.
<strong>DeSoto 52, Lick Creek 34:</strong> The Lady Eagles trailed DeSoto 22-17 at halftime and couldn’t catch up in a semifinal game which was played Thursday, Jan. 30.
Heath scored 10 points and had 3 assists and a steal to lead Lick Creek. Angel Helm had 7 points, 3 assists and a steal; Denny had 5 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and an assist and Chaney had 5 points, 6 rebounds and a steal.
Mitchell had 3 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists; Hooks had 2 points, 5 rebounds and a steal and Cori Turner had 2 points.
The Lady Eagles finished the season with an 18-6 record.
