Shawnee softball hopes to build on fall success

The Shawnee High School softball team finished in third place in the South Egyptian Conference tournament last fall.

Head softball coach Mindy Jameson wants to continue building on that success for the spring.

“We played very well in the fall,” Jameson said. “We’ve got good experienced players coming back. I expect a lot of good things from them.”

Seniors on the Lady Reds squad includes first baseman Jonnie Ellet and second baseman/pitcher Geri Ellis.

Juniors expected to contribute are shortstop Kaylee Boston and outfielders Tuesday Solpietro and Brittany Lillibridge.

Sophomores who will see varsity action are outfielders Elena Houston and Jessie Reynolds and pitcher/infielder Haley Murphy.

The team will rely on a lot of freshmen with catcher/infielder Reagan Brown, outfielder Taylor Ellis, infielder/pitcher Maggie Morgan, infielder/pitcher Bethany McMahan, infielder, Katelyn Glodo, utility player April Kutah, pitcher/infielder Jordan Johnson and utility player Ashtyn Lasley.

“I  think we’re going to be competitive,” Jameson said. “I believe we’re going to play well (this spring).”

Jameson looks to Cobden and Goreville as the powers in the South Egyptian Conference and Century with a lot of potential.

The Lady Reds open their season at Benton Thursday, March 18.
