Earl L. Harp

Earl L. Harp, 84, of Tamms, and formerly of Bethalto, died at 2:40 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born on Feb. 22, 1925, in Mound City, the son of Earl L. and Ethel Caywood Harp Sr.

He married Louise Warren on Sept. 4, 1959.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was in the heating and air conditioning business until his retirement in 1987.

He is survived by his wife, Louise of Tamms; three sons, Greg (Cathi) Harp of Elsah, John Harp of Olmsted and Tony Harp of Mound City; one daughter, Debbie Harp of Mound City; several grandchildren; one brother, James (Ruie) Harp of Bethalto; one sister-in-law, Juanita Harp of Cottage Hills; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Ray Harp; an infant daughter, Theresa Harp; four sisters, Bea, Reba, Betty and Sylvia; and three brothers, Paul, Leon and Philip.

Funeral services were at noon Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the First Assembly of God Church in Wood River with Pastor Greg Harp officiating. Interment was in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens with military honors by the Alton Post No. 1308 Veterans of Foreign Wars ritual team.

Memorials can be made to the March of Dimes.

Crain Funeral Home in Tamms was in charge of arrangements.
