Wheaton knocks in winning run

With the scored tied 1-1, Cody Wheaton drove in the winning run with a base hit in the bottom of the 5th inning to lead host Murphysboro to a 4-1 win over Sparta in American Legion baseball action Monday, June 29.

Wheaton,  3-0, was the winning pitcher with a three-hitter. He struck out 13 batters through 6 innings.

Matt Hand added a hit for Murphysboro.

Wheaton and Hand are former Anna-Jonesboro High School baseball players.

Murphysboro improved to 13-8 overall.
