Edna Dobbs
Edna Dobbs, 92, of Johnston City, and formerly of Marion, died at 6:23 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at her residence.
Mrs. Dobbs was born on April 28, 1917, in Gorham, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Chapman Barton.
On April 11, 1936, she married Lavern (Dago) Dobbs, who preceded her in death on July 30, 1992. Together they shared 56 years of marriage, the last twenty of which were spent in retirement, with half of each year at their home in Marion and the other half in a campground in Inverness, Fla.
Mrs. Dobbs was a homemaker and liked crocheting, rummage sales, movies, picnics and family gatherings. She looked forward to the family reunion every year on Labor Day weekend.
Mrs. Dobbs is survived by a daughter, Barbara Cripps of Johnston City; three sons, Bennie (Patricia) Dobbs of Lansing, Ronald (Donna) Dobbs of Marion, Gary (Cindi) Dobbs of Valparaiso, Ind.; and a daughter-in-law, Lenora Dobbs of Marion.
She is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren and a brother-in-law, Frank Voorhees of Murphysboro.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Dobbs was preceded in death by her son, Charles Dobbs; a son-in-law, Jim Cripps; her parents; sisters Pearl South and Nellie Modglin; great-grandson Kyle Cripps; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 16, at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with the Rev. Kevin Badgley officiating. Interment was in Walker Hill Cemetery in Grand Tower.
