Ethel L. Peterman

Ethel L. Peterman, 82, of Anna, and formerly of Freeburg and Cobden, died at 7:23 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2009, at City Care Center in Anna.

She was born on Jan. 16, 1929, in Cobden, the daughter of John and Mamie Dixon Kerr Sr.

She married William Chester Peterman on Aug. 10, 1950, in Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death on Aug. 10, 1970.

Mrs. Peterman is survived by six children, Linda (John) Clark of Anna, William (Patty) Peterman of Glen Carbon, John Peterman of Simpson, Dale “Eddie” (Pam) Peterman of Cobden, Alice Miller of Freeburg, and Joyce Peterman of Freeburg; one brother, Willard (Shirley) Kerr of Makanda; two sisters, Virginia Mae (Bryon) Penrod of Grand Tower and Maxine Hadsack of Joplin, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, John Clark Jr., Lisa Murray, William Peterman, Michael Peterman, Angela Peterman, Robert Louis Peterman, James Edward Peterman, Christopher Lee Peterman, Scott Eugene Peterman, Jonathan Lynn Miller and William Brandon Miller; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Chester Peterman; three brothers; and five sisters.

She was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Freeburg. She retired as a nurse’s aide and worked at Four Fountains Nursing Home in Belleville and Union County Nursing Home in Anna.

Funeral services for Mrs. Peterman were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden with the Rev. Richard Pearce officiating. Interment was in the Cobden Cemetery.
