Frankie D. Payne
Frankie D. Payne, 83, of Carbondale, died at 11:10 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010, at his home.
He was born on March 14, 1926, in Ullin, the son of Jess and Ruth Sheffer Payne.
He married Lois Westrup on May 17, 1952, in Bloomington.
Mr. Payne worked for the ICG. He was a veteran. He was a 50-year member of the Masons. He was a member of the Shriners and the VFW.
He volunteered with Hook a Kid on Golf and donated a dozen golf balls to each participant.
Survivors include sons Steve and Jan Payne of Carbondale and Chris Payne of Allen, Texas; daughters JoAnn and Tim Payne of Eagan, Minn., Becky and Rick Guyton of Edwardsville, Linda and Dan Black of Glen Carbon, and Beth Ann and Charles Johnson of Carbondale; brothers John Payne of Newport, Ala., and Ed Payne of Newport News, Va.; grandchildren Kimberly Black, Megan Black, Amy Guyton, Ricky Guyton, Amy Martin, Melinda Payne, Courtney Payne, Mark Payne, Stephanie Payne, Amanda D. Cole, Susan Phillips and Melodie Johnson. He was preceded in death by Jess Payne of Tupelo, Miss., and by his parents.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at Walker Funeral Home in Carbondale. Alan Rhein officiated. Memorials can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
