Allen E. Moss Sr.

<p class="p1">Allen E. Moss Sr., 82, of Jackson, Missouri, and formerly of Cairo, died on Oct. 8, 2015, at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Cape Girardeau.</p><p class="p1">He was born on Sept. 23, 1933, in Cairo, the son of Cleophus and Elizabeth Lewis Moss.</p><p class="p1">His father died when Allen was very young, and his mother married Ogle Lindsey when Allen was 3 years old. Ogle was a great blessing to their lives.</p><p class="p1">He married Nellie Jane Sullivan on June 13, 1951. She survives.</p><p class="p1">He served in the U.S. Air Force. He and his wife owned and operated Al's Boat and Trailer and the farmer's market in Cairo. He was a city council member and mayor of Cairo, serving the community for over 20 years.</p><p class="p1">He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Cairo and the First Baptist Church of Jackson. He was active in both the Masonic Lodge and Shriners Lodge.</p><p class="p1">He is survived by his wife, Nellie, of Jackson, Missouri; one son, Allen E. (Katie) Moss Jr.; one granddaughter, Courtney Moss, two grandsons, Allen E. Moss III "Trey" and Thomas Sullivan Moss, all of Jackson, Missouri; a niece, Bobby Kay (Wayne) Hale of Foley, Alabama; two sisters-in-law, Lynn (Phillip) Parker of Des Moines, Iowa, and Margaret Knight of Boynton Beach, Florida; one brother-in-law, Teddy (Dee) Sullivan of Danville; a lifelong friend, Sandra Williams of Anna; other relatives and many friends.</p><p class="p1">He was preceded in death by his parents.</p><p class="p1">Funeral services for Mr. Moss were Saturday, Oct. 10, at noon at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, with Jim Matthews and Phillip Parker officiating.
