Modena Rose Jack

Modena Rose Jack, 79, of Energy, died at 7:37 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, at Herrin Hospital with her family by her side.

She was born on Jan. 8, 1930, in Herrin, the daughter of Miles and Edna Sanders Ralls.

She married Joe D. Jack on July 13, 1951, in Marion. Together they shared 58 years of marriage.

She was a member of the First Church of God in Marion.

She was a 4-H leader while her children were growing up. She was a member of the Illinois Home Extension.

She worked several years outside the home but liked being a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Joe of Energy; a son, Gregory  Jack and wife Angela of Carbondale; a son, Alan Jack of Marion; a son, Keith Jack of Herrin; seven grandchildren, Scott Jack of Cambria, Travis Jack of Herrin, Mike Jack of Marion, Amber Turner and husband Alex of Anna, Kevin Jack of Marion, Brandon Jack of Herrin and Christopher Jack of Herrin; seven great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Paul Russo of Marion; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles “Sonny” and Delores Hunter of Du Quoin; a sister, Mary Atkinson of Herrin; a brother-in-law and wife, Billy and Marjorie Jack of Herrin; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Sonny Ralls and Bill Ralls; and one nephew, Brian Labelle.

Funeral services were at noon Saturday, Aug. 22, at Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City with the Rev. Keith Heberer officiating. Interment was in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Energy.

Memorials can be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois.
