Mary Iona Poole
Mary Iona Poole, 83, of Jonesboro, died at 5:15 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2009, at her home in Jonesboro. She was cared for at home by her children. Each child cared for their mother to keep her at home and comfortable during her illness.
She was born on July 16, 1925, the daughter of Ernest and Minnie Helton Hartline, the oldest of four children. She was raised in the Mill Creek area.
She met her husband, Norman Wardell Poole, while operating her store in Mill Creek. They were married in December 1955. He preceded her in death on Aug. 21, 1976.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and liked going to the LLC meetings. She owned and operated a dry goods store in Mill Creek for several years.
For many years she cared for the elderly and cleaned homes of many people in the community.
She liked bingo and planting flowers. She delivered newspapers for many years with the help of her children.
She is survived by four sons, Kerry V. (Jan) Coffman of Las Vegas, Nev., Garry Michael (Clarissa) Poole of Carbondale, Robert Eugene (Joy) Poole and Norman Neil Poole all of Jonesboro; three daughters, Norma Dianne Smith of Anna, Vicki Pamela Smith and Kelly Rene (Thomas) Rains, all of Jonesboro; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leon Hartline of Jonesboro and William Hartline of Nashvillle, Tenn.; one sister, Maisie Beadles of Sedalia, Ky.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, today, at Crain Funeral Home, Anna-Jonesboro with Pastor Joe Aldridge officiating. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery near Dongola at a later date.
Memorials can be made to the American Lung Association.
