Open auditions for 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?'

<p class="p1">The Stage Company in association with WSIU-FM  is holding open auditions for "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" by Edward Albee and directed by Vincent Rhomberg.</p><p class="p1">Auditions are Monday, Dec. 14 and Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m.</p><p class="p1">The auditions will be held at The Varsity Center for the Arts, located at 418 S. Illinois Ave. in Carbondale.</p><p class="p1">Auditions will be readings from the script. The script is on reserve at the Carbondale Public Library. Those unable to attend will be seen Tuesday with call backs following.</p><p class="p1">The show runs Feb. 12-14 and 19-21. There are roles for two men and two women. One couple is mid to late 20s and the other couple is mid 40s to early 50s.</p><p class="p1"><strong>About the Roles</strong></p><p class="p1">The four characters, Martha, George, Nick and Honey are rich and emotionally challenging roles, iconic in the American Theater.</p><p class="p1"><strong>About the Play</strong></p><p class="p1">When this play debuted in 1962, it won the Tony Award for the best play in the New York Drama Critics' Circle. </p><p class="p1">It was shocking when it opened, breaking boundaries and taboos. The dialogue and the tempestuous "take-no-prisoners" action has given rise to its status as classic American literature.</p><p class="p1">The play was further catapulted into the status of legend with the 1966 film version starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. </p><p class="p1">Set in a small-university town, George, a failed history professor and Martha, the boisterous daughter of the university's president, are forced to examine the very heart of their bitter and frustrating relationship when they invite a younger couple to their home for a late and liquor-filled night of fun and games.</p>
