Wildcats win against Yellowjackets
The Anna-Jonesboro High School boys’ basketball team split in last weekend’s Southern Illinois River-to-River Mississippi Division Conference action.
Following are game summaries:
A-J 73, Chester 58: The Wildcats built a 13-0 lead on their way to the win over the host Yellowjackets Saturday, Feb. 13.
Chester fought back to pull to 24-14 at the end of one quarter.
Behind several 3-pointers, Chester pulled to 31-30 at the half.
With Brady Wright and Gabe Pecord leading the way, the Wildcats fought back to a 50-41 advantage at the end of three quarters.
Wright led the way for A-J with 20 points and 8 rebounds.
Pecord had 16 points and 7 rebounds. Jordan Adams had 12 points and a rebound. J.R. Woodward had 7 points and 8 rebounds.
Tylor Duckworth and Cody Livesay had 6 points apiece, Jacob Brimm 4 and Jesse Webb had 2 points and 7 rebounds.
The Wildcats were 23 of 37 in shot attempts from the floor, 6 of 19 from 3-point range and 9 of 15 from the free throw line.
The Yellowjackets were 13 of 32 in shot attempts from the floor, 6 of 15 from 3-point range and 14 of 23 from the charity stripe.
Nashville 50, A-J 39: The visiting Wildcats trailed 12-6 after one quarter on their way to the loss Friday, Feb. 12.
The Hornets led 23-14 at the half and 33-25 going into the final quarter.
The Wildcats pulled to 33-29 early in the final quarter before the Hornets responded with a 3-pointer.
Nashville was 12 of 14 from the free throw line in the last period to hold off A-J.
Woodward had 16 points and 8 rebounds to lead A-J. Pecord had 10 points and 5 rebounds. Wright had 5 points, Adams and Duckworth 3 apiece and Livesay 2.
The Wildcats were 12 of 30 in shot attempts from the field, 3 of 16 from 3-point range and 2 of 4 from the free throw line.
The Hornets were 8 of 16 in shot attempts from the floor, 7 of 16 from 3-point range and 13 of 17 from the charity stripe.
A-J, 16-12 overall and 2-7 in the conference, closes out regular season play Friday at Du Quoin.
