Final madrigal performed at Shawnee College

<p class="p1">A decades long tradition came to a close on the night of Dec. 5.</p><p class="p1">The Shawnee Community College Music Department performed their final madrigal, which has grown into quite a popular show at the college.</p><p class="p1">The madrigal was created at Shawnee Community College in the 1960s, soon after the college first opened its doors. </p><p class="p1">SCC Music Department director John Windings surprised the crowd when appearing in his debut performance as “The Great Wizard."</p><p class="p1">Windings oldest son, Caleb, played the role of the King of Chelsea, while his youngest son, Conner, manned the sound system.</p><p class="p1">“ (The) madrigal has always been my favorite production at SCC because I love Christmas and also the closeness in the relationships that develops between my students and myself during that time.” </p><p class="p1">Windings continues. “I also love the way that the SCC madrigal is like no other anywhere. It is unique in that the storyline is our story. With the script recently being written by SCC Madrigal Alumni's Tim and Charity Frizzell, it guarantees the performance is fresh and relevant."</p><p class="p1">Windings has been at SCC for a total of 21 years, directing the madrigal every single year. </p><p class="p1">Windings plans to retire at the end of next year. </p><p class="p1">The madrigal will always be known as a beloved performance not only by the Shawnee Community College family, but also by the entire community. </p><p class="p1">SCC wishes to say thank you to those who have supported this performance over the years. Without the support, the SCC madrigal wouldn’t have become the success it is today.</p>
