Mary E. Fitzgerald
Mary E. Hurston Fitzgerald, 85, of Saginaw, Mich., and formerly of Cape Girardeau and Elco, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at Tendercare in Saginaw.
She was born on Feb. 2, 1924 in Elco, the daughter of William and Sarah Hays Hurston.
She married Leman A. Fitzgerald on Dec. 21, 1941. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1982.
She was a member of Saginaw Valley Baptist Church, where she was active in sending greeting cards to church members. She liked to play cards and take care of her dog, Sparky.
Survivors include a son, Robert Fitzgerald of River View, Mich.; two daughters, Mary (John) Tulppo of Saginaw, Mich., Phyllis (Bob) Keller of Dongola; eight grandchildren, Mike (Terri) Fitzgerald, Margaret Ann (Mike) Imerzel, John Kevin Tulppo, Kenneth Leman Tulppo, Rayno Keith Tulppo, Darla Jean Lieby, Peggy Sue Brown and Paul J. Marks; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret (Ray) Peavy of Indianapolis, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, John Leman; by three sisters, Wilba Bagby, Flossie Dodson and Barbara LaGrone; and two brothers, Oliver and John Hurston.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, today, at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms with the Rev. Kenneth Mixen officiating. Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery in rural Dongola.
