Frederick W. Schaefer

<p class="p1">Frederick W. Schaefer of Grayslake and formerly of Webster Grove, Missouri, died on July 14, 2015, following a period of declining health. He wife of 58 years, Jeanette Smalley Schaefer was by his side.</p><p class="p1">He was born on March 11, 1930, on the family farm in Jonesboro.</p><p class="p1">He attended business school in Chicago and after serving in the Army during the Korean War he became a freelance court reporter.</p><p class="p1">He relocated to St. Louis where he operated his own firm for decades developing a large list of clients and a larger list of friends. He served as president of the Missouri Shorthand Reporters Association and was active in his national association.</p><p class="p1">In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, son Eric and wife Eithne Johnson of Cambridge, Massachusetts, daughter Karla Schaefer of Lake Forest and daughter Karen Freed and her husband Steve Freed of Lake Bluff; five grandchildren, Matthew and Sadie McCarthy, and Kyle, Devin and Harrison Freed; five nieces and nephews and extended family.</p><p class="p1">A celebration of his life for family and friends will be held at a later date.</p><p class="p1">Memorials can be made in his name to the Midwest Palliative & Hospice CareCenter in Glenview at www.carecenter.org<http://carecenter.org>.</p>
