Village of Ullin awarded $304,038 housing rehab grant
The Village of Ullin has received a 2019 Illinois Housing Development Authority, IHDA, grant in the amount of $304,038 for a housing rehabilitation program.
The housing rehabilitation program is designed to improve the housing stock within the Village of Ullin.
Through the program, the village hopes to rehab approximately eight homes, with two being roof only repairs.
To be eligible for the program, homeowners must reside in their homes and the total gross income of the home has to fall within the low-income guidelines that are set by IHDA each year.
Homeowners must also have insurance on their home. Priority points will be given to those homeowners who are elderly, very low income, or handicapped.
All applications will be ranked based upon specific criteria as outlined by IHDA.
The type of work that will be performed on homes selected for rehab will be limited to repairs necessary in order to extend the life of the home.
Roofing, plumbing, electrical, structural, HVAC, windows, and doors will be priority items.
Only those homeowners who live within the Village of Ullin will be eligible for this assistance.
In order to receive assistance, residents need to obtain a copy of the housing grant application at the village hall or Southern Five Regional Planning Commission in Ullin.
An informational meeting is planned Oct. 1, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., at the Southern Five office located at 5 Justice Dr. in Ullin.
Those who plan to attend need to bring a state issued ID or driver license, proof of homeowner’s insurance, proof of income (last year’s tax return or three recent pay stubs) and a copy of a deed showing ownership (a copy can be obtained at the county clerk’s office at the county courthouse).
Initial applications intake for the grant assistance will run from Oct. 1 through Oct. 31.
However these applications will be available through the ending of the grant, which is April 2021, or until the funds are exhausted.
Residents can call the Southern Five Regional Planning Commission at 618-845-9000 to receive a copy of the application. Those who call are asked to speak with Lacey Reagan, the housing administrator.
After completing the application, homeowners must return it to the Southern Five Regional Planning Commission office at 5 Justice Dr., Ullin, Ill. 62992, Attn: Lacey Reagan. Applications need to be sent in as soon as possible, officials noted.
