Upcoming event will support local cat spay/neuter coalition

An event is being planned for Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11-12, to benefit the Cobden Spay/Neuter Coalition, which is an informal organization.

Organizer Jillian Miller said that a yard/bake sale is being planned from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. The event will be at the pavilion in the park in downtown Cobden.

Proceeds will benefit the Cobden Spay/Neuter Coalition.

The coalition provides funding for Cobden residents to have their pets spayed and neutered.

The coalition also offers a trap, neuter, return or relocate program for street cats which is designed to benefit the community. Street cats are tested for disease and given a rabies vaccination before they are released.

Donations are welcomed for the yard sale and bake sale. Volunteers also are invited to help with the event.

In recent years, the coalition has hosted a yard sale and a “spayghetti” dinner.

The coalition has donated half of its earnings (just over $1,000) from the events to the local animal control program.

The coalition has assisted with approximately 25 street cats and around 15 personal pets. The goal is to increase those numbers and expand efforts to curb what is seen as a “cat problem” in Cobden and other Union County communities.
