A talk about the ecology of spring ephemerals is planned at the visitors center at Giant City State Park near Makanda on Sunday, Jan. 29, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The presentation is scheduled to be given by botanist Christopher David Benda.
Southern Illinois and Giant City State Park are home to a rich variety of common and rare spring ephemeral wildflowers.
The plants are called ephemeral because they typically only occur for a couple of weeks in the spring before they disappear for the rest of the year.
Those who want to attend are asked to register in advance by calling 618-457-4836.
