Support welcomed for local school’s veterans memorial
The Shawnee Veterans Memorial Wall committee is asking farmers, businesses and other potential supporters throughout the community to help make the memorial wall become a reality.
The committee wants the wall to be placed on the grounds of the school district to honor all veterans, living and deceased, who have ties to the Shawnee School District.
The committee estimates the wall will cost nearly $20,000.
The committee has held several small fundraisers, but also is pursuing larger fundraising projects.
Donation levels have been established. Donors will be recognized by having their names and their level of giving on the back of a patriotic t-shirt that will be sold throughout the community, as well as on a program that will be handed out during the wall’s dedication unveiling. Donors will also be publicly thanked in the paper.
Donor levels include Bronze, $250 to $499; Silver, $500 to $999; Gold-$1,000 to $2,500; and Platinum, any amount above $2,500.
Donations can be mailed to Shawnee Veterans Memorial Wall, c/o Mindy Livesay, 3365 State Route 3 North, Wolf Lake, Ill. 62998.
Donations received by Sept. 8 will be printed on the first set of t-shirts in order to have some available for the Grand Tower Homecoming, which is Sept. 23-24, but donations will still be taken after the homecoming.
For more information, call the school at 833-5307 and ask to speak to Mindy Livesay or Becky Glodo.
